In 2018, Flipkart was acquired by Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, in a deal valued at approximately $16 billion. This made Flipkart one of India’s most valuable startups and solidified its position as a leading player in India’s rapidly growing e-commerce market.
They make money in a few ways:
- When you buy something on their site, they get a small part of the money.
- Companies can pay them to show their ads on the site.
- They have a membership service called “Flipkart Plus” where you pay a fee for extra benefits like fast and free delivery and early access to sales.
- They have a digital wallet called “Flipkart PayLater” where you can store money for future purchases. They make money from fees and interest charged when people don’t pay back on time.
- They also have their own delivery service, which helps get the items to you. They make money from shipping fees.
